Las Tarascas. Taqueria & Market | Our Story

Made by Hand, Served With Heart

Las Tarascas is a female-led kitchen on South Mason Road in Katy where everything is made from scratch — and every plate tastes like it came straight from someone's abuela.
Nuestra Historia

Nuestra Historia

Las Tarascas is the vision of Lety, a proud Michoacán native with over 30 years in the food industry. Nearly two decades ago, she opened this market store in Texas to bring the flavors and traditions of her homeland to the community. Today, guests visit for traditional prepared foods, daily and weekend specials, meats by the pound, and a wide selection of Mexican and Latin American groceries and edibles. Here, everything reflects the spirit of a true mercado experience — simple, fresh, and rooted in tradition.
The Name and the Roots

The Name and the Roots

The roots of Las Tarascas come from Michoacán, where food, family, and community are deeply connected. Lety grew up with the flavors and cooking styles that continue to guide the store today, from regional dishes to beloved uchepos, sweet corn tamales often found in traditional mercados. The name Las Tarascas honors La Fuente de las Tarascas in Morelia, a cultural landmark symbolizing abundance, tradition, and strength. That same meaning lives on here in Katy, TX — keeping heritage alive through food and everyday connection.
The Women Running the Kitchen

The Women Running the Kitchen

This is a female-led operation, and that's not a detail — it's everything. The generosity in the portions, the patience in the sauces, the pride in every plate: it all comes from women who cook the way a family meal is supposed to feel.
The Menudo Worth Waking For

The Menudo Worth Waking For

A broth that simmers for hours, served with lime, cilantro, and the kind of depth that makes people drive across Katy on a Saturday morning.
Tamales Bigger Than the Rest

Tamales Bigger Than the Rest

The tamales at Las Tarascas aren't modest — they're oversized, generously packed, and made by hand the way they're supposed to be. One is a meal; two is a celebration.
Worth the Drive, Every Time

On a stretch lined with chains, Las Tarascas stands apart by doing the one thing that can't be replicated at scale: cooking with care, every single day.
